Role Description: Lab Assistant 1

Department: Pre-Analytical Operations-Infectious Disease

Reports To: Pre-Analytical Operations Manager/Assistant Supervisor(s)

Purpose of the Role: Perform essential functions such as: Accuracy in accessioning patient sample information into the LIS; Accuracy in physician test ordering, scanning in requisitions.

Outcome Required & Strategic Priorities:

  1. Ability to follow and adapt to workflow processes and procedures determined by Director and/or Department Manager.
  2. Ability to read and comprehend AIT Infectious Disease Menu
  3. Maintain constant communication between Infectious Disease Technical Laboratory and Analysts.
  4. Ability to multitask between accessioning patient sample information, physician orders, manifesting and plating available samples for technical laboratory.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with other staff.
  6. Function as part of the team and promote teamwork.
  7. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  8. Turn in all assignments on time and accurately to appropriate supervisor(s).
  9. Upholding company and departmental culture and core values.
  10. Other duties as directed.

Main Responsibilities / Critical Tasks

  1. Laboratory Safety

  3. Review that all information is accurate and up to standards for all departments

  5. Ability to identify all CAP required sample information
  6. Accession patient sample information and physician test orders accurately according to requisitions and patient demographics provided by client.
  7. Provide oversight of orders on requisitions on pre-accessioned samples.
  8. Ability to identify missing information and execute the proper route when missing information is identified
  9. Provide oversight of physician/patient information required by HIPPA, CLIA, and overall best lab practices.
  10. Ability to scan patient requisitions for medical record purposes.

  1. Effective communication with Pre-Analytical Operations Manager or Director of Laboratory Operations regarding errors and missing information found while scrubbing and accessioning.
  2. Report any scanning errors to superiors.
  3. Complete all task given daily with accuracy.
  4. Attend weekly departmental meetings for continued eduaction.
  5. Error rate must be maintained below 1%. Goal of 0 errors per month.
  6. Accesioning at least 70% of workflow available per employee per shift to maintain steady efficiency.
  7. Achieve culture value points set by department and company

Schedule

4 day work week to be determined. Hours will most likely be:

6am – 4:30pm

8am – 6:30pm

5pm – 3:30am

Performance Expectations:

  1. Requirement of 250+ sample accessions per shift.
  2. This is volume dependent on samples received daily and can be subject to change daily.
  3. Ability to adjust to policy changes with smooth transition. Must be able to be flexible in job duties assigned daily and in schedule.
  4. Must be able to learn and complete scanning of sample requisitions in available downtime.
  5. Ability to learn and use Excel.

Role Description: Exceptions Specialists will handles the resolving of missing information samples, minor report corrections, and actively assist in resolving deal breakers.

 

Purpose of the Role: Efficiently communicate with Pre-Analytical Operations Department, Account Managers, Sale’s Reps, and Customer Fulfilment to resolve any missing information as soon as the sample is received. The focus is to facilitate rapid completion of missing information, which is essential for reporting results critical to patient care.

 

Outcome Required & Strategic Priorities

  1. Ability to determine acceptability of specimen.
    1. Follow proper policies and procedures
  2. Verify samples and paperwork for accuracy.
    1. Verification of HIPPA required physician and patient information.
  3. Handle and respect confidential data in compliance with HIPAA and other privacy rule requirements.

Main Responsibilities / Critical Tasks

  1. Must identify all CLIA required information on each sample prior to contacting client.
  2. Navigate and utilize all platforms:
    1. LIMs, CRM, SharePoint, Sharefile, eFAX.
  3.  Communicate and obtain missing information from clients via phone, email, CWP, or fax.
  4. Accurately accession and QC all missing information / deal breaker samples.
  5. Track & keep record of all samples in exception / deal breaker status.
  6. Develop and implement missing information solutions with clients, account managers, sales reps, and customer fulfillment.
  7. Effectively communicate all issues, progress, and results as appropriate to applicable internal staff members.
  8. Maintain accurate records referencing any phone calls, correspondence, issues and resolutions.
  9. Identify trends of client performance and recommend courses of action to department leadership through reports and analysis.

Role Description: Laboratory Technician

Department: Infectious Disease

Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Purpose of the Role: Handling all infectious disease testing providing 100% accuracy when handling all samples, and creation of collection devices.

Outcome Required & Strategic Priorities

  1. The Technician will become proficient in performing sample processing.
  2. The Technician will become proficient in usage and basic maintenance of all lab machinery.
  3. The Technician will become proficient in pipetting, serial dilutions.
  4. The Technician will have a basic understanding of the data and internal controls
  5. The Technician nneeds a broad understanding of sterile technique and cleaning necessary for a PCR lab.

 

Main Responsibilities / Critical Tasks

  1. Performing sample prep and DNA extraction.
  2. Performing manual pipetting steps with small volumes.
  3. Assist in making our in-house collection devices.
  4. Reviewing and assisting protocol developments and adjustments.
  5. Preparing solutions.
  6. Preparing accurate sample tracker files
  7. Maintaining a clean work environment
  8. All duties as assigned

  4. Be able to process all live sample types
  5. Be able to troubleshoot and resolve common scanning, plating, Hamilton errors

 

 

Labratory Scientist (B.S. or B.A. in a main science – Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry):

Laboratory Scientists at HealthTrackRx can have rewarding and challenging careers.  Our years of experience have allowed us to identify some drivers of success that can greatly increase your likelihood of success, so we want to share them with you.  Within 2 weeks of onboarding, a successful Laboratory Scientist will:

  1. Be able to accurately receive samples into the lab, correctly scan sample plates
  2. Be able to plate 94 samples in less than 45 minutes (any sample type)
  3. Be proficient in the use of a Hamilton Nimbus, Hamilton Star and ThermoFisher KingFisher.
  4. Be able to process all live sample types
  5. Be able to process a 96-well COVID-19 or short panel assay in 15 minutes, and a 384-well COVID-19 assay in 30 minutes
  6. Be able to complete OpenArray samples (processing through export) in 6 hours
  7. Be proficient in the use of the QuantStudios, and the Opentrons
  8. Be able to troubleshoot and resolve common scanning, plating, reaction, and equipment errors

Certifying Scientist (M.S. or PhD. In a main science – Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics):

  1. Be able to accurately receive samples into the lab, correctly scan sample plates
  2. Be able to plate 94 samples in less than 45 minutes (any sample type)
  3. Be proficient in the use of a Hamilton Nimbus, Hamilton Star and ThermoFisher KingFisher.
  4. Be able to process all live sample types
  5. Be able to process a 96-well COVID-19 or short panel assay in 15 minutes, and a 384-well COVID-19 assay in 30 minutes
  6. Be proficient in the use of the QuantStudios, and the Opentrons
  7. Be able to analyze and report COVID-19 samples in no more than 20 minutes for 96-well & 40 minutes for 384-well
  8. Be able to troubleshoot and resolve common scanning, plating, reaction, and equipment errors

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  1. The Tip Washing Specialists will be measured on how many clean tips are available for the Hamilton and Nimbus instruments.
  2. They should ensure accurate detergent and bleach solution measurements, and careful precision when completing processes of soaking, washing, drying, and inspecting tips.
  3. They are expected to be measured on 99.95% accuracy while performing work duties. Beyond 0.05% error rate in any month is out of the range of the acceptable metric.

Why is the pay-range so wide?

We offer several different positions within the lab, each requiring different sets of skills. Those that require some medical experience tend to be on the higher end, while more entry-level positions are on the lower. Most applicants with no medical experience at all can expect to make between $11.50 and $15 per hour.

I've never worked in a lab before - Is that ok?

Absolutely! We offer several positions that do not require any previous healthcare or laboratory experience. HealthTrackRX is the perfect way to get introduced into the field, and we often promote from within.

how many hours can I expect?

Most positions within the lab are full-time (38-40 hours). In some cases, we do have overtime available. There are some part-time positions offered as well, mostly on Saturday and Sunday’s.

Where is the job?

HealthTrackRX (AIT Laboratories) is located in Denton, TX.

Is this position long-term?

All laboratory assistants at this time are hired on a contract basis. On contract, your position could last anywhere from several weeks to several years, or even turn into a full-time hire. This is primarily dependent on the amount of volume the lab receives.
